Introduction

The West Bengal Information Commission, has been constituted under Sub-Section (1) of Section 15 of the RTI Act, 2005 vide Gazette Notification No.747-PAR(AR) dated 12.12.2005 and published in the Gazette on 03.01.2006. The Commission’s mandate is to exercise the powers conferred on, and to perform the functions assigned to it under the Act.

Section 15(4) of the Act provides that the general superintendence, direction and management of the affairs of the State Information Commission vests in the State Chief Information Commissioner who shall be assisted by the State Information Commissioner(s) and exercise all such powers and do all such acts and things which may be exercised or done by the State Information Commission autonomously without being subjected to directions by any other authority under this Act.
